KRAFTWERK

Wednesday 23rd June 2027

Cardiff Castle

Lineup TBA

The pioneers of electronic music bring their live show to the castle grounds for one open-air night. It mixes electronic music, computer animation and performance art into what the band call a Gesamtkunstwerk, a total work of art.

Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider started Kraftwerk in 1970 at their Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, where every Kraftwerk album was made. By the mid-seventies their electronic soundscapes and their experiments with robotics had made them internationally known. Synthetic voices and computerised rhythms became the soundtrack to the digital age, and their influence reaches across electro, hip hop, techno and synth-pop.

On stage, Ralf Hütter and his team show the belief that runs through the whole project: man and machine each have something to contribute.

Recent years have taken Kraftwerk back to the art world they came from. After a retrospective of their catalogue at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, they played Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall, Sydney Opera House, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Fondation Louis Vuitton, Berlin’s Neue Nationalgalerie and the Guggenheim Bilbao. In 2014 they received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2021 they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This summer they played a special open-air concert in Germany for the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus.
